We hope "South Pacific Journal" blesses you.
The idea for this book came during the midst of a long, lonely car ride through the
hills of Eastern Kentucky. I had passed out of "civilization" (i.e. the range of
my favorite radio stations) and was mindlessly listening to the babble of miscellaneous
country music as the miles slid by. It was during this drive that I was reminded that such
solitude presented an ideal opportunity to meditate not upon the ramblings of the popular
star of the moment but instead upon the glory of God and the nature of my meager service
to Him. At that time in my life, I was discovering both the totality of the commitment
that God requires of his people and the abundance of His grace that enables us to do more
than we ever imagined we could. I was discovering how existence with God is truly the
experience of the paradox of a life lost and found. In a nutshell, that is what South
Pacific Journal is about. It is the story of two people - in different times and
circumstances - who are shocked when their lives are shaken by the wholly unexpected. In
1941, a woman's life is forever changed when war comes and takes from her everything she
held dear. More than a half-century later, it is the story of that change that transforms
the life of her brother - a smug, arrogant New York lawyer. South Pacific Journal is a
tale that is full of heroism, danger, passion, revelation and truth. In other words, it is
the story of lives lived in the shadow of the Cross. My wife and I hope that you enjoy the
book and hope that it will bless you. |
